Start with the decision
Separate the underlying structure from its cladding or visual face. Identify whether the support can remain in useful service, then define the new graphic, finish and placement. A face refresh should not silently alter structural responsibility or incompatible loading.
Build the record
Record support identity, condition, mounting points, working dimensions, access and replacement method. Specify the cladding material, print, edges and attachments as a versioned assembly. Keep the responsible confirmation of fit and any competent structural or installation review linked to the project.
Check before acting
Trial fitting and removal with the actual interface. Observe whether the old face can be removed without damaging retained parts and how the new face is handled. Ask a receiver about the retired cladding separately from the retained support. Count the actual components retained after work, not the initial intention.
Worked example — illustrative
A fictional retail fixture has sound equipment but worn graphic faces. The team confirms the fixture model and clipped panel dimensions. Replacement faces are trialled on one fixture, and the old bonded trim creates a separation question. The support remains recorded in inventory while retired face components follow a distinct recovery enquiry.
Keep a useful handover
Record the responsible person, decision date and next review trigger with the evidence version. Keep planned actions distinguishable from confirmed activity. If later information changes the result, preserve the earlier record and update current guidance.
- Identify the retained support.
- Measure actual interfaces.
- Version the replacement face.
- Trial removal and fitting.
- Separate retained and retired quantities.
