Explain why a recycling symbol is not a guaranteed route

Use the symbol to identify a question about material or collection, then confirm the finished item's actual receiver and conditions.

Identify what the symbol is intended to communicate

Record the exact symbol, surrounding wording and source explaining its meaning. A mark may identify a material, refer to a scheme or communicate a particular collection message; these are different functions. Keep the product component and geographic scope visible. Do not assume a familiar graphic promises that an entire printed and finished display can enter any local recycling process.

Inspect the assembly behind the label

List the substrate, ink, coating, laminate, adhesive, backing and fixings. Ask whether the mark applies to the base material or the delivered construction and whether use conditions changed it. A component's potential compatibility with a process does not establish the existence of a practical route for your batch. Preserve unknown layers instead of turning a broad family name into a complete composition record.

Ask a real receiver about the proposed load

Give the operator the quantity, condition and relevant construction details. Record preparation, collection and acceptance conditions with the date and responding party. Different systems can have different limits, and household guidance should not automatically be treated as commercial acceptance. An agreed collection still needs receipt and treatment records before a specific outcome can be reported.

Write the bounded statement people can check

Use the Claim scope checker to separate the symbol's stated meaning from the evidence for the actual return route. Prepare a Return request if acceptance is unresolved, and keep any public wording within the supported scope. CMA guidance is useful context for the overall impression created by claims and imagery. Leaf Accord does not approve symbol use, verify a receiver or guarantee a recycling outcome through a completed checklist.
