Start with the decision
Describe the required function before approving a laminate: cleaning, abrasion, appearance or another supported need. Compare feasible ways of delivering that function against the actual service period and handling.
Build the record
Record laminate, adhesive, thickness, coverage, print and underlying media. Create a new assembly version when these change. Retain the reason for the choice and identify the person authorising it.
Check before acting
Recheck inherited performance, content and recovery claims. Obtain a receiving response for the laminated item, or record the unresolved route. An expected life extension can be described as a service assumption; numerical savings require a comparable assessment.
Worked example — illustrative
A fictional menu graphic receives a wipeable face for a specified cleaning regime. The team records the laminate and trial observations, then versions the item. Its earlier plain-paper recovery response is not retained as current acceptance for the new assembly.
Keep a useful handover
Close the “Record lamination as a separate material decision” decision with a named owner and a dated evidence version. The next working record is “Explore material references”. Record whether that step is planned or confirmed; retain the prior decision if new information changes the instruction.
- State the finish function.
- Name laminate and adhesive.
- Version the assembly.
- Review inherited claims.
- Keep route gaps visible.
