Begin with the retained system
Record the frame geometry, fitting type, edge treatment and installation method before buying a replacement textile graphic. Measure the working opening and confirm allowances with the fabricator. A photograph of a stand is useful, but it rarely establishes the tolerance or compatible fitting needed for a reliable replacement.
Describe the supplied textile
Request fibre composition, fabric mass, coating or backing, ink process and any applied treatment. Keep the exact product and batch identity where possible. A claim about recycled yarn, a fabric certification or a supplier’s management system describes a different scope from the installed display.
Trial the intended handling
Observe packing, crease recovery, fitting, print appearance and cleaning on a representative sample. Record the method and limitations of the trial. Ask the supplier which cleaning instructions preserve the finish. Use the relevant venue requirements and scoped test evidence for fire and structural decisions.
Design the second campaign now
Store fitting details, approved replacement dimensions and condition photographs with the asset. Ask whether new graphics can be produced without replacing the frame, and whether old fabric has an accepted reuse or recycling route. WRAP’s textile resources can inform the questions; actual display-textile acceptance still needs a receiving-party response.
Worked example — illustrative
A travelling display still has a usable frame but its original textile is damaged. The owner records the fitting, dimensions and system identity before requesting replacements. The fabricator confirms allowances and supplies a representative sample. Packing observations become trial notes, while venue fire requirements remain a separate evidence request. The frame stays in the inventory, with the old fabric’s destination documented independently.
- Identify frame and fitting.
- Record composition and finish.
- Trial the intended handling.
- Keep performance and recovery evidence distinct.
