Start with the decision
Identify the current assembly and which coating or laminate is proposed. A finish can affect service, separation and evidence applicability. It belongs in the same record as the substrate and print rather than a free-text note detached from production.
Build the record
Record the named treatment, adhesive, coverage, thickness where known, purpose and supplier version. Link the approval and production instruction. Preserve substitutions as new versions with dates and responsible contributors.
Check before acting
Flag affected recovery enquiries, performance records and public wording for review. Keep history for already-produced assemblies. Require an attributable confirmation before declaring the updated finished version ready for the relevant application.
Worked example — illustrative
A fictional rollout changes laminate supplier after an availability issue. The producer records the new variant and asks the reviewer to check inherited statements. Earlier panels keep their original bill of materials; future panels use the new version. A collector receives the revised construction description.
Keep a useful handover
Close the “Track coating and lamination decisions in the bill of materials” decision with a named owner and a dated evidence version. The next working record is “Check evidence scope”. Record whether that step is planned or confirmed; retain the prior decision if new information changes the instruction.
- Name the treatment.
- Record purpose and coverage.
- Version substitutions.
- Find affected statements.
- Confirm updated applicability.
