Work through the decision

Select the uncertain input, baseline and relevant range. State whether each value is observed, sourced or hypothetical. Recalculate the same method while exposing fixed factors, boundaries and event counts. Explain conditional scenario crossovers, including unsampled intervals. Do not translate a sensitivity result into achieved carbon or guaranteed financial savings.

A fictional worked example

In a fictional programme, lower future reuse means more cost per useful deployment. The learner tests several entered deployment counts while leaving repair and refresh events fixed. The explanation states that those fixed assumptions would need a separate scenario if they also change.

Evidence and authority limit

A conditional model cannot establish actual future use, treatment or environmental reduction.

Put it into practice

Test three deployment counts and record the fixed assumptions plus one factor that still needs evidence.

Keep this record: A reproducible sensitivity worksheet with conditional interpretation.

  • Varied and fixed assumptions are clear.
  • Ranges and units are recorded.
  • Results are not claimed as achieved outcomes.
