Use environmental evidence

Identify the claim

Identify the full meaning of the statement before looking for reassuring evidence.

LESSON-055Informal learningReviewed 2026-10-04

Work through the decision

Copy the exact proposed wording and intended placement. Identify its subject: a component, finished assembly, process, organisation or activity. Note implied comparisons, scope and any visual suggestion that broadens the meaning. A narrow true fact may not support the impression created by a whole-product statement.

A fictional worked example

A fictional supplier declares recycled content for one substrate. A draft caption calls the whole installed display sustainable. The learner separates the actual substrate statement from the broader assembly impression and asks for the missing supporting scope.

Evidence and authority limit

Identifying a claim is preparation for review, not legal approval or evidence that it is true.

Put it into practice

Rewrite a broad fictional caption as a precise draft and list what would support its meaning.

Keep this record: Exact wording, subject, intended use and supporting-scope questions.

  • The precise statement is preserved.
  • Component and whole-assembly claims are distinct.
  • Implied comparisons and qualifications are identified.
