Work through the decision

Identify the file owner, project, content version and allowed readers/actions. Actual private storage uses authorised upload/download checks, quarantine policies and time-limited links. Do not place credentials, private object links or confidential files in public metadata or source bundles. Keep storage and backup scope explicit, including original objects rather than metadata alone.

A fictional worked example

A fictional evidence PDF is licensed for internal review only. The learner keeps it private and publishes a permitted source reference. A time-limited download link is not printed into a permanent public passport.

Evidence and authority limit

Browser storage and a local file reference are not an encrypted shared workspace or a verified server grant.

Put it into practice

Prepare a file-sharing policy for one private document and one permitted public summary.

Keep this record: Ownership, current grants, licence limits, expiry and safe public fields.

  • Private and public objects are distinct.
  • Current authority governs actual download.
  • Temporary private links are not permanently published.
