Work through the decision

Name manufacturer range, variant, revision, application and planned finishing. Ask for specific properties with units and relevant test scope instead of requesting an indiscriminate brochure bundle. Include applicable geography, date, source locations and permission for intended document use. Keep request, acknowledgement, supplied information and reviewed response separate.

A fictional worked example

A fictional manufacturer declaration covers an unprinted substrate, while the buyer plans to laminate it. The request asks which evidence applies to the finished construction and whether the receiver’s route accepts the laminate. Sending the question does not resolve it.

Evidence and authority limit

An evidence request does not create partnership, provider acceptance, technical confirmation or missing scientific data.

Put it into practice

Prepare three precise questions for a chosen manufacturer about a finished variant, with the decision each question supports.

Keep this record: An exact-variant request packet and a response/gap log.

  • Questions identify the exact variant and process.
  • Units, scope and rights are requested.
  • Unreceived information remains missing.
