Research question
Freight factors describe different quantities. A graphics shipment needs a measured mass, journey and allocation method that match the selected factor.
A worked project scenario
A reusable exhibition kit travels repeatedly in a shared truck. Its retained frame reduces replacement purchases, but the journeys remain part of the project service.
Method to use
Record each leg, packed mass and whether the transport is dedicated or shared. Use a tonne-km row only with tonnes multiplied by distance. Use a vehicle-km row only with a documented allocation of the vehicle movement. Keep packaging, empty return and supplier transport assumptions separate.
Limits of the conclusion
Averages do not establish the actual truck’s loading or route. A return journey should not disappear merely because the frame is labelled reusable.
Questions for the actual application
- Which exact source, unit and version support the decision?
- Which project quantities are measured, and which remain assumptions?
- What could change the result after installation or recovery?
Scope and limitations
- Averages do not establish the actual truck’s loading or route. A return journey should not disappear merely because the frame is labelled reusable.
