Fictional starting position

A fictional project has a scoped permission to use a Leaf Accord mark for a defined project, licensee, territory and period. A separate buyer–supplier contract exists for a previously commissioned display service. The mark permission reaches its term before a proposed new campaign.

Examine the record

The operator reads the actual permission and contract records. Free software access, an environmental finding, mark-use authorisation and external contractual duties are kept separate. Expiry is not interpreted as permission for new use or as automatic cancellation of an unrelated contract.

Decision steps

Record the permission’s current state and conditions, preserving what applied to the historical project.

Prevent unsupported new mark use and route renewal or a fresh scoped application to its actual authority; payment cannot create a favourable environmental finding.

Keep the existing contract identity and accepted records intact. Refer contractual interpretation to the responsible parties and qualified review rather than changing obligations through a software label.

Bounded outcome

In this fictional case, the stated existing agreement continues under its own terms while new mark use requires actual authorisation. The example is an operating distinction, not legal advice about a real contract or evidence that live mark licensing is commissioned.

Apply the lesson

Transfer the lesson from “A project licence expires for new work but preserves an existing contract” into a fresh real project record. Start with: What actual permission and terms apply? Is the proposed use new? The scenario above is fictional; the answers, evidence versions and actual changes on your project must be recorded independently.

  • What actual permission and terms apply?
  • Is the proposed use new?
  • Which contract responsibilities remain separately defined?

Method

  • Record the permission’s current state and conditions, preserving what applied to the historical project.
  • Prevent unsupported new mark use and route renewal or a fresh scoped application to its actual authority; payment cannot create a favourable environmental finding.
  • Keep the existing contract identity and accepted records intact. Refer contractual interpretation to the responsible parties and qualified review rather than changing obligations through a software label.
